Why Visit?
Playing disc golf in Massachusetts should be on your wish list. Here's why. It’s the home of Maple Hill, which consistently ranks as one of the best disc golf courses in the world and sits in a cluster of other exceptional world ranked places to play. The Codfish State is also the region you come to enjoy its great seafood, check out the heritage, explore the coastal towns like Salem and Cape Cod, hike in the Berkshires, see the fall colors during leaf peeping season or tour famous campus' like MIT or Harvard.
Things to Do
Start in Boston, a city that doesn’t feel overwhelming like many big US towns can. Downtown is great for jumping on a duck boat tour for an overview of the city and its landmarks as well as heading out on the Charles River. Go to the iconic Fenway Park and get tickets to a Red Sox baseball game or explore the beautiful and world renowned Harvard campus.
Then hire some wheels and hit the road, to the heart of the state, central Massachusetts to play the power pocket patch of disc golf courses that surround Maple Hill. If its history you’re after then this is the state to find it. There’s the famous Heritage Trail, to walk in downtown Boston or travel up the coast to Salem with haunted museums and architecture centred around the witch trials of 1692.
Hike up to the highest peak in Massachusetts, Mount Greylock in the Taconic Mountains or explore the Mohawk Trail, a famous scenic road in New England.
Head down the Cape and see why New Englanders holiday here. Try a raw bar where oysters and clams are shucked right in front of you or relax on the white sand beaches. Take the ferry across to Nantucket to visit their famous lighthouses or mosey along the Sconset Bluff Walk where you can peak into expensive island homes as you wander by.
Where to Play
It may not have the most courses in the US, but Massachusetts packs a punch with what it does have for you to play. Famous for its wooded and technical disc golf, you don’t have to travel far from Boston out west to be playing on some of the world’s best disc golf courses like Maple Hill, Pyramids Disc Golf Course, Mile Marker 63 and Meadowbrook Orchards. Plus the world’s largest disc golf shop is there too, Marshall Street. North of Boston is Clement Farm Disc Golf, consistently ranking as a top Massachusetts course. Most of these courses are pay to play and some require bookings for tee times.
When you head south of Boston, there’s Ames Mansion in the scenic Borderland State Park - popular for mountain biking, hiking and Borderland Disc Golf which has multiple layouts.The park itself has featured in a number of Hollywood movies from Shutter Island to Mermaids and Knives Out.
If your budget stretches to the Cape, take a trip over to Nantucket. On Lover’s Lane is Nantucket Disc Golf course, only two miles from the ferry terminal in the Nantucket State Forest and it features in the Top 10 Massachusetts disc golf courses.
