The wedding date is locked off and now for the groom’s last celebration before the big day. The groom is a disc golfer  and the bachelor party is heading out for a long weekend to sling some plastic. But where? We’ve put together a list of the best bachelor party destinations to play disc golf.

Your groom likes disc golf so chances are he's likely an outdoorsy type and Tahoe is going to be a perfect location to explore and indulge in some pre-wedding adventures. From mountain biking the Flume Trail to hiking up Mt Tallac to see the sunrise or just lounging around on Baldwin Beach.

But it’s also a region famed for cool breweries and with so many tourists heading to the region year-round, there’s plenty of places to stay and to eat no matter what your budget. Accommodation is likely not going to be a problem either depending on your weekend because there’s plenty of camping, hotels, motels and AirBnbs to choose from around the South Lake Tahoe area or other quieter areas around the lake.

Of course there’s the casinos, but there’s also Party Arty. Sounds cheesy but his Harrah’s shows get a lot of praise and attract plenty of bachelor and bachelorette parties on Friday and Saturday nights. If breweries are more your thing, Hangar is a cool large spot with a tap room and great wood fired pizzas and there’s cornhole and live music. Tipsy Putt has Mexican food, beer and mini golf or Lucky Beaver Bar & Burger accommodates big groups. There’s also Yosemite Axe-Throwing in Tahoe that lets you drink and throw axes. What could possibly go wrong?

Bijou - Disc Golf Travels

The main course of disc golf you’ve got  a few to choose from including: Bijou Disc Golf is in South Lake Tahoe and California’s second rated course. Also near town is a nine hole easier course, Tahoe Paradise. Over in Nevada is Zephyr Cove course with lots of elevation but great views and it’s rated as the state’s top disc golf park.

Donner Ski Ranch - Disc Golf Travels

There’s a couple of courses near Carson City - 30 plus minutes from South Lake Tahoe, Indian Hills disc golf or Pine Nuts. But maybe venture over the other side of the lake to Truckee  and play the popular and very scenic alpine course Donner Ski Ranch. Then head to one of the most popular breweries in the region, Alibi Ale House to sample its local beers and to eat.

Meadowbrook Orchards - Disc Golf Travels

Is the bachelor party up for playing some of the best disc golf courses in the state/country/world? Throw in some retail therapy, breweries, baseball and it's all roughly an hour from Boston and Logan International Airport. So you could base yourselves in the state capital for a lot more choice of places to stay and nightlife but then you’d have to drive… in Boston. Worcester might not be the first place that comes to mind for a bachelor party but it has the best options for accommodation and let’s face it, you’re going to be out throwing plastic most of the time.

Mile Marker 63 - Disc Golf Travels
Mile Marker 63

Maple Hill disc golf famed for this unique farm property and its Christmas tree nurseries - its the top United States course and in the world’s top five. Pyramids Disc Golf Course is nearby and on the same property as Marshall Street Pro Disc Golf Shop - the largest retailer and a good place to offload some cash in between rounds. Then you only have a 20 minute drive to Mile Marker 63 - another top US rated course. Not far from here is Meadowbrook Orchards disc golf course in Sterling - your fourth course and another that sits in the world and US ratings as one of the best.

Treehouse Brewing Company - Disc Golf Travels

Treehouse Brewing Company in Charlton gets rave reviews for the beers, atmosphere and food. In Worcester, you have a lot of options to eat and drink on Shrewsbury Street, or one of the best places to get hot dogs, Annie’s.  If you’re after a famous dive bar, try Vincent’s, known for live music and its meatball sandwiches. The WooSox, the local Worcester team play in the International League, a minor league affiliate of the Boston Red Sox and they might be playing at Polar Park during your trip.

The unofficial city motto is ‘Keep Austin Weird’ , the official one is the world’s  ‘Live Music Capital’ and UDisc ranks it as the top city to play disc golf. So connecting the dots, Austin should lay the foundations for a pretty good bachelor party.

Mary Moore Searight Park - Disc Golf Travels

But a local has thrown out a word of caution not to go out to bars or breweries in Austin because you’ll have too much fun and won't be able to hit three courses each day. Disc golf v day drinking. Ponder this as you float down the San Marcos River on a rubber tube in a boozy tubing adventure or book a party boat/barge on Lake Travis complete with your own water slide. Disc golf, well you’re playing in not only the top city but the number one rated state in the US, so enjoy. Roy G. Guerrero disc golf course is only six miles from downtown Austin and a popular course, Met Centre disc golf, Mary Moore Searight Park and Circle C Metro Park are all on that side of town. Zilker Park, in the heart of Austin, is a large green space that is home to large music festivals and outdoor activities including Zilker Park disc golf course.

Plus there’s a few other courses on the outskirts including; Wells Branch, Davis Spring Park, Bartholomew Park and Austin Ridge Bible Church. Of course you’re probably going to be heading out, trying to keep spending and hangovers to a minimum. There are plenty of breweries, more than 50, to choose from in and around Austin. You could take a three hour tour on the Twisted Texas Brew Bus that’s part brewery tour and tastings and part live music on a bus as you party your way around the city. Or you could just go out to a brewery like St Elmo Brewing Co, Meanwhile Brewing or Jester King Brewery out of Austin on a 40 acre ranch.

Terry Black's BBQ - Disc Golf Travels

You’re also in Austin for the food right? Try la Barbecue or Terry Black’s Barbecue for some of the best bbq in the city or Franklin Barbecue where people wait for hours in line for the brisket. For breakfast/brunch, The Paperboy is popular or Taco Flats for a quick stop breakfast taco. For a laid back, no frills down and dirty tex mex there’s Matt’s El Rancho an Austin institution that’s been in the city for 70 years. Sixth street, or the Dirty Sixth as locals lovingly refer to it, is a mile long stretch of live music, bars and clubs and it might be where you end your night.

There’s also Rainey Street, with a more hipster vibe it has bars, food trucks and cocktails. Try a Texas Tea if you’re over the beer already. It’s like a Long Island Iced Tea but with Bourbon added to make it super potent.

And for either a hangover cure or at the end of a long day of disc golfing, there’s Barton Springs Pool in Zilker Park not far from the Zilker disc golf course.

Stowe, Vermont - Disc Golf Travels

Throw the question out about bachelor destinations for disc golfers and this one comes up a fair bit because it's all-in-one. The Pros: Roll out of bed, eat then play some awesome disc golf. You get to play Brewster Ridge Disc Golf Course (Number 2 course in the US and in the top 10 world courses to play) and Fox Run Meadows (Number 3 course in the US and also in the top 10 world courses) as much as you like plus there’s a 9 hole Fox Run glow round . You can choose a weekend package to stay two nights at roughly $285 per person(studio share) which includes accommodation, breakfast, disc golf, a commemorative disc, craft beer pack etc.  Every year in September it hosts the A-tier Green Mountain Championship on the Disc Golf Pro Tour.

The Cons: The Stay and Play packages are limited dates & getting there could be a problem depending on where your bachelor party is travelling from. It could take you between 3.5 - 5 hours to get to Smugglers Notch from Boston. Or try flying into Burlington that’s only an hour away but with limited connections to some major US cities.

Logistics aside there’s a lot to like about this option. The location is superb. Smugglers Notch is a mountain pass nestled between the Green Mountains and the Sterling Range so there’s other things to do in between rounds.

There’s a lot of hiking, try the Stowe Pinnacle Trail is a 3.7 mile out and back moderate hike up that rewards you with some panoramic views of the Green Mountains, Camel’s Hump and Mt Mansfield. There’s more great disc golf than just Smuggler’s Notch. About 40 minutes north is Enosburg and Cold Hollow Disc Golf - another top ranking world and US course. Stowe is 25 minutes from Smuggler’s Notch and has places to eat and stay. There’s also the von Trapp Family Family Lodge & Resort disc golf course where the hills come alive with the sound of sweet chain music. And yes, it actually is those famous Austrian von Trapps from The Sound of Music because after Maria and Captain von Trapp auf’d their singing tour in the US in the 1940s, they started a recycling business making kids clothes out of curtains. No, they actually bought the property in Stowe.

It’s a resort and an award winning brewery run by their youngest son and now a disc golf course that is a top UDisc brewery pick. Also in the region, the Cold Hollow Cider Mill sells their famous Cold Hollow Cider donuts (around 16,000 a day!). Ben & Jerry’s began in Vermont and the factory is nearby in Waterbury. If you stop by, check out the famous Ben & Jerry’s Flavor Graveyard filled with headstones to bygone ice cream flavors. And finally, The Alchemist is a family-owned brewery and kitchen in Stowe that also features live music and events or you lounge in the beer garden and play cornhole.

This may not be top of mind when organising a bachelor party but hear us out. It’s actually one of the best cities in the US to play disc golf and plenty of professionals on the tour call it home.

Plus, this location is nice and easy for anyone flying or driving in for the big weekend. Accommodation options are obviously plenty in the central city but you could look further afield and book a lakehouse on the popular Lake Norman. It’s further out of town but it does give you watersport options or even a fishing trip if that takes your fancy. If disc golf is a major factor to include in any bachelor party festivities you are in luck and it could fill the entire weekend in Charlotte as long as you like trees.

Hornets Nest - Disc Golf Travels
Hornets Nest Disc Golf

Hornets Nest Park is probably the most well known and has the water holes that make it interesting, Renaissance Park has two courses, Gold is harder but there’s a slightly easier and shorter RenSke course and also on the west side is Plantation Ruins at Winget. The oldest course in Charlotte is Reedy Creek and also on the east side of town, Eastway Park. On the south side of town are the two courses at Elon Park, Angry Beaver and Eager Beaver. That should be enough to get you started but there are plenty more in the Charlotte area.

Whitewater Centre Charlotte - Disc Golf Travels

If you have the energy after playing multiple courses daily then try the popular Whitewater Centre in Charlotte or you could hike Crowders Mountain State Park where there’s plenty of trails including the 5.4 miles Crowders Trail to Rocktop Trail Loop that gives you great views. Or for a more sedate afternoon/evening there’s Charlotte’s Brews Cruise, where you get driven over 3 hours to key brewers in town.

Funny Bus Charlotte - Disc Golf Travels

If it’s the season, you could catch a Hornet’s basketball game or for something a bit different try a trolley pub or The Funny Bus, a comedy tour on wheels around Charlotte’s nightspots where you get some sightseeing, standup and BYOB. But if you want to just hit a good brewery, then there’s also a good selection including; Resident Culture, Divine Barrel and Wooden Robot and the Salud bottle shop is popular as a good taproom and place to shop for your own ales.
