Monterey Bay has the popular aquarium and there's so many great towns to visit on the coast on your way to San Francisco including; Santa Cruz, San Simeon, Malibu, Santa Barbara & San Luis Obispo.  California is also known as one of the world's top wine producers and a popular destination to sample its varieties in areas like Nappa Valley and Sonoma County.  In San Francisco, you can book a ferry spot out to the infamous prison on Alcatraz Island.  Grab a bike and cycle your way from the famous Pier 39 to the Golden Gate Bridge, and pedal over this famous landmark to Marin County and Sausalito for a well earned beer before catching a ferry across San Francisco Bay back to the city.  In Southern California, there's desert towns like Palm Springs  and Joshua Tree or find the hidden rock pools off Laguna Beach.
