Why Visit?
Sweden is Scandi-cool - its innovation and design means this country bats well above it weight on the global stage. But there's more to Sweden than just Ikea and ABBA. There’s a lot to see and do across the country from its far north region into the Arctic Circle where you can see the Northern Lights down to sampling fresh fish and shrimp straight off the boat in Gothenburg. Sweden is Europe’s most forested country with 70% of its landscape covered in woodlands. The world's top disc golf course, Ale in Nol is just one reason why Sweden's disc golf community is proud of how the sport is shaping up in this part of Scandinavia and why you should definitely make time to visit.
Things to Do
There’s plenty to see and do in Sweden but there’s also the lure of fantastic disc golf courses to play along the way. Take the Swedish Inlandsbanan up north into the arctic wilderness past endless forests and lakes. In Abisko National Park, you are inside the Arctic Circle and in winter there's the chance to spot the Northern Lights or go dog-sleding while in summer there’s hiking and 24 hours of daylight. Try a unique experience of staying in the treehotels in the north.
You can explore the archipelagos around Sweden just by taking a cruise ferry around the Baltic Sea from places like Finland and Estonia, spotting the sommarstuga or Swedish holiday homes dotted on islands.Or take a cruise to the archipelago with a traditional Swedish Fika (coffee and cake).
In beautiful Stockholm there is the interactive and popular ABBA Museum. Nearby is the Vasa Museum, one of Scandanavia's most popular tourist attractions that houses the world’s only preserved 17th century ship that sunk on its maiden voyage out of Stockholm having only travelled a mile.
Walk the beautiful old town with its cobbled streets and historic buildings or catch and explore Stockholm's Tunnelbanna. It's famous for being the world's longest art gallery as the metro stations have murals, sculptures, mosaics, and installations in nearly all of the 100 stops around the city.
Many of the best disc golf courses lie Southwest of Stockholm, so it makes sense to visit Gothenburg. The archipelago here is perfect to explore on a kayaking trip or brave the chilly waters in summer and then enjoy a sauna as part of a Nordic plunge. Further south, is the city of Malmö - a small condensed town to walk or bike around. It's here you can visit the tallest skyscraper in Scandinavia, the Turning Torso that dominates the skyline or for something a bit different try the Disgusting Food Museum. Here, you can easily connect and drive into Denmark from Sweden via the Øresund Bridge - the second largest bridge in Europe. It features not just a bridge but an artificial island and a tunnel for rail and cars. It famously features in the Nordic Noir tv series The Bridge.
Where to Play
In 2026, UDisc put six Swedish courses in the world’s top 12 . Let’s start with Nol, because three of the top courses in the world are in this small town a short distance northeast of Gothenburg. The Ale Disc Golf Centre has everything you could need from accommodation through to a disc golf driving range, putting area and three courses as well as a disc shop. Nearby is another top world course, Uspastorp DiscGolfPark. All of them are designed by Camilla Jernberg.
If you you're in Malmö then it's not far to Hörby and Åkeslunds DiscgolfCenter which wows most visitors who play the course. One reviewer said it was exactly like Maple Hill in Massachusetts, USA but without the water. If you are heading from Malmö to Gothenburg then the Appelgarden Disc Golf Centre should be a stop. Here you can play on one of the world’s best and prettiest courses that's built on a former golf course. It's also possible to stay on the property, rent golf carts and eat there too. Ymergårdens Disc Golf Course, in Boras is about an hour east of Gothenburg has featured in top European elite series competitions and a lot of reviewers agree that it is one of the best in the world. There are a number of courses reachable from the capital Stockholm including Järva Discgolf Park - still a top ranked course despite losing some of the property to local development over recent years. It's also possible to play this course using public transport from Stockholm and a short walk. If you are up in the more northern part of the country, try two significant courses that rank among the best in Sweden, Discgolf terminalen Skelleftea and Bispgardens Discgolfbana.
